In the last discussion we discussed classroom management and this time the dividio discussed how to teach listening to young learners.
" TEACHING LISTENING TO YOUNG LEARNERS"
- HOW TO TEACH LISTENING TO YOUNG LEARNERS
teaching listening to young learners have four (4) point, that is :
1. Theories of teaching listening to young learners
2. Practices of teaching listening to young learners
3. Discus a bit on a structur task of this activity
4. Independent task on this meeting
- THEORIES
There are several points in the theory of teaching students listening to learners :
* listen as much english of an appropriate level as possible.
* the level of proficiency level means neither easy or difficult for them.
What is meant here is whether the lesson is easy or difficult for students, if it is difficult what is the impact. The impact of learning difficulties in my opinion there are several things including psychological aspects of the problem of the use of spoken / written language that is the inability to understand poor motor conditions, so that it affects the learning function and subsequently from the emotional social aspect, emotional instability marked by frequent frequent striking changes in the atmosphere the heart is shown to be less able to control emotions.
Some of the following learning difficulties can help children : If we see our children having learning difficulties, then do a thorough check on professional staff to find out the strengths and weaknesses of children, Learn about learning difficulties. The more parents know about learning difficulties and the different ways of learning, the more parents can help themselves and children, talk to children openly and introduce their learning difficulties and their strengths, help and provide support to children to develop strengths and the talent they have, Invite them to set realistic targets, Guide children to do school work.

* the alternatif way to improve students listening practice is we encourage the children and their parrent to play tapes oe videos at home or englis computer software.
And how to implement listening activity at classroom
The first is listening the new word first
And the second is read the new word first
Its depends on situation, if the age of YL can read the word, they tend to read first.
Fact : Native speakers who are at elementary schools aged read the new word first, hear them first, they may say soon afterwords.
So, as the teacher the sequences of listening activity is :
1. Listen
Ex : i like playing badminton
2. Notice the patterns
Ex : YL (S) Notice the patterns and recognize
3. Practice patterns as natural or possitive
Ex : students practice : i like playing tennis, i like playing football, i like playing soccer, etc
- PRACTICE
Listening activities in YL
- Dictation
* this activity will be fun activity for YL in listening classroom. The teacher also measure students understanding on new words/target words they have learners
* procedures :
1. Teacher dictate the target word
2. Students with their wordsheets focus on the word they listen
3. After the activity, teachers can check student understanding
- Activities of Dictation
Matching teachers sound and write down the word on the appropriate pictures
In practice activities of students can be in the form of games such as examples:
1. chopstick spelling game
- Teacher devide class into two group
- Before starting the game teacher ask one of each group to be letter keeper and other one letter picker
- In turn. Teacher dictate the letter to be picked from letter bank with chopstick
- After finishing word dictation. The group who can finish, arrange and pronounce well and firstly will be the winner
2. rules of the game of bingo ( the teacher cab giving some clue)

- Teacher distribute the worksheet of Bingo
- Teacher spell the letter and students complete the Bingo and mention / write down the profession the got
- after finishing the game, teachers and students check the answer
- word search dictation
1. Teacher spell thb words of profession
2. Students look for the words from teacher
3. Students mark the word with the pen
4. Teacher and students check the Answer with the projector
In beside Distation teacher can also implemen stories to encourage listening for YL implemen story in classroom.
The last activities for listening activities is TPR ( Total physical response)
- TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE ( TPR)
* an example of TPR for teacher to give instruction in English first combined with action and then give the same instruction again without the action
* the YL show understanding by following these instruction without reading to speak
TPR is one of the familiar activity implement in YL classroom activity so in this technick teacher say or explain some of intruction to the students and then student respon the teacher intruction without any expression
Examples : when the teacher say stand up so students stand up without any expression of stand up.
